  • How Do I Get To The Kaibab Lodge?

The North Rim is open from May 15 to October 15 of each year. Since the North Rim is 1000 feet higher than the South Rim at an elevation of 8500 ft, it is much cooler during the summer months and much colder during the winter. Early and late in the season, you can expect highs in the high 60’s and lows in the 40’s (Fahrenheit). In the middle of the season, the highs are in the 80’s with lows in the 60’s.

  • When is the Kaibab Lodge Open?

The Kaibab Lodge, and the entire North Rim area of the Grand Canyon is open seasonally from May 15 – Nov 5th.

The official North Rim Grand Canyon Plateau is officially open from May 15 – Oct 15 but the Kaibab Lodge usually stays open for a few weeks each year after Oct 15th. If you are planning to travel in late Oct or early November please make sure to check published dates. We will update them as we get closer to October.

  • Is There Cellular Service?

Generally speaking there is no cellular service at the North Rim. There is no cellular service once you get out of range of the cellular towers located at Jacobs Lake. There is limited service as you ascend out of the Canyon and as you exit the North Kaibab Trail Trailhead but once you are out of line-of-sight of the Grand Canyon itself and into the plateau cell phone service ends quickly.

  • Do you have internet service

Yes, at the Kaibab Lodge we have installed a Starlink System for our guests to use. This system is fairly quick and speeds are improving all the time. We do not promise that it will be available in all our cabins but it is available at the lodge. We are looking to extend the coverage to the property for the 2023 season. We do not guarantee you can stream video and other very high bandwidth services but the system is usually sufficient for emails, internet, and voice calls.

  • Are there refrigerators, microwaves, kitchenettes in the cabins?

At this time we do not have refrigerators, microwaves, or kitchenettes, in our cabins? The main lodge building is a very short walk from all of the cabins and for basics such as snacks, meals, sandwiches, water, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages can be purchased at the lodge. Also, the North Rim Grand Canyon Store is right across the highway and has basic food staples and supplies. As we expand the lodge and cabins we are looking at adding kitchenettes to the new cabins as we build them out.

  • Where is the nearest gas station?

The nearest gas station is right at the Kaibab Lodge. It is located across the street at the North Rim Grand Canyon Country Store.

North Rim: There is a parking lot at the North Kaibab trailhead.

If you have only one vehicle, it is best to park it near the trailhead where you exit the canyon. Be sure not to drive off-road, block another vehicle, or otherwise obstruct traffic when you park. Valuables should be secured out of sight (in a trunk if possible), glove compartments left open for inspection and the vehicle locked. On the South Rim, the Bright Angel Lodge offers a storage service for valuables for a fee on a space available basis.

  • Do you have chargers for electric vehicles?

At this time there are no electric vehicle charging stations.

  • Do the cabins have air conditioners and heaters?

The Kaibab Lodge is located at 9,100 feet elevation. Summer time temperatures remain beautiful and moderate while evening temperatures cool down. As such air conditioners are not needed and all cabins have heaters.

  • Do you offer a shuttle to the trail head?

Of Course! It leaves every morning & every evening several times and drops off hikers from the Kaibab Lodge and the North Rim Grand Canyon Resort to the North Kaibab Trailhead. This saves several miles of hiking at the beginning or end of your rim to rim hike!

  • Do you transport bags and bicycles?

Yes. We do transport unaccompanied and accompanied bags and bicycles with panniers (not trailers) rim to rim on our scheduled shuttle. Bags are free with your reservations and bicycles are $100.00 one way and ADVANCED RESERVATIONS are required. Reservations can be made directly online.

  • Do you offer a rim-to-rim shuttle?

Driving to the other side will take about 5 hours for the 210-mile trip. It is a very scenic drive. Hiking is the shortest route across, only 21 miles. This often done anywhere between 1 long day. Or, ideally, typically takes at least 2 – 3 days, via the Bright Angel or South Kaibab and North Kaibab Trails with overnight stays at Bright Angel Campground or lodging at Phantom Ranch if you are able to secure lodging inside the Grand Canyon.

  • When is the best time to visit the Grand Canyon?

The best time to visit the Grand Canyon largely depends on your preferences and what you want to experience during your trip. Here are some factors to consider for different seasons:

    Spring (March to May):

Weather: Pleasant temperatures, with average highs ranging from the 50s°F to 70s°F (10°C to 20°C). Nights can still be chilly.

Crowds: Moderate crowds, except during Spring Break (late March to early April).

Highlights: Spring wildflowers, blooming cacti, and the possibility of some snow on the rim, creating beautiful contrasts.

    Summer (June to August):

Weather: Hot temperatures prevail, with highs often exceeding 90°F (32°C) at the South Rim. Inner canyon temperatures can reach over 100°F (38°C). Nights are cooler.

Crowds: Peak tourist season with large crowds, especially in June and July.

Highlights: Longer daylight hours for exploring, clear skies, and opportunities for hiking and river rafting. Be prepared for heat and make sure to stay hydrated.

    Fall (September to November):

Weather: Mild to warm temperatures during the day, ranging from the 60s°F to 70s°F (15°C to 25°C), with cooler evenings.

Crowds: Moderate crowds, with a slight increase in October during fall foliage season.

Highlights: Pleasant weather, vibrant fall colors in late October, and fewer crowds compared to the summer months.

    Winter (December to February):

Weather: Cold temperatures, with highs in the 30s°F to 50s°F (-1°C to 10°C). Snow and icy conditions are possible on the rim, but the inner canyon is generally milder.

Crowds: Fewer visitors, except during the holiday season and long weekends.

Highlights: Tranquility, breathtaking snowy landscapes, and the possibility of seeing the Grand Canyon covered in a winter wonderland.

It’s important to note that the North Rim of the Grand Canyon has a shorter season (mid-May to mid-October) compared to the more accessible South Rim (open year-round). Additionally, weather conditions can vary, so it’s always a good idea to check the forecast and be prepared for any changes in temperature or precipitation.
